- Pick two contrasting instruments for this assignment (Brass, Woodwind, Strings(Piano), Mallet Percussion and or ethnic or world instruments (Banjo, Sitar, Harmonica, etc.)
- Using the Improvisational Track for the Composition “Mother Ship” by Mason Bates” “Click Here” and the Mother Ship Lead Sheet “Click Here” you will improvise a solo during the first part of the solo. During the second part of your solo “which comes after the rests shown in the video” you will compose a melody and write down your solo on finale.
- Both solos must be video recorded and uploaded to the discussion board under Phase 1 “Click Here” along with the pdf of your melody composition by Monday July 25th at Midnight. In your post you are also required to speak of your inspiration for your 2 solos. Please answer and discuss the following questions in your post. “What inspired you to write out your melodic solo?” “What kind of cultural music does your improvisation resemble the most?”
- You will then be required to make a new video using the “Mother Ship” material but this time based on the material of your partner (partners are already picked out “Click Here”) Submitted on Phase 2 of the discussion board by Friday July 29th.
- Students will then need to respond to each of their peers post on phase 1 and phase 2 of the discussion board.
